Council Tool 3.5 lbs. Miner’s Axe Dayton Pattern; 26 in. Straight Wooden Handle
This 3.5 lbs. Miner's Axe Dayton Pattern features a 26 in. straight wooden handle, perfect for close quarters work. Made in the USA, it boasts a hand-sharpened, tapered bit with a cutting edge of approximately 4.75", meeting ANSI standards for bit hardness of Rc 45-60. Council Tool internal standards call for tempered bit hardness of Rc 48-55, targeting 1-1/4 inches from the cutting edge. The axe head is coated with red enamel and the cutting edges are coated with clear lacquer to prevent rust. The American hickory handle is 26 in. and dried to below 10% moisture content for minimal shrinkage and loosening. The serrated aluminum wedge secures the head to the handle and provides a strong, lightweight option that does not change size with moisture content. The interior of the eye is tapered for a strong mechanical bond, with 1/2 inch of the handle removed during assembly
